New AJAs Chair

HALIFAX, Nov. 18, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Atlantic Journalism Awards is pleased to announce that Glenn Deir, former CBC reporter/producer in St. John's NL is the new Chair of the AJAs Board of Directors.  Glenn's journalism experience at CBC included radio and television news reporting, spanning 31 years in all four Atlantic Provinces. He also spent two years as a Broadcast Specialist with NHK, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, in Tokyo.

As an author, he has written a memoir entitled Sick Joke: Cancer, Japan and Back Again, which was a finalist for a Newfoundland and Labrador Book Award in 2011. He is currently completing his first novel. The Money Shot will be released in Fall 2016 by Breakwater Books. 

Glenn has served on the AJAs Board of Directors for five years and replaces Kevin Ward of the Canadian Press who has accepted a new position with CP in Vancouver.

The Atlantic Journalism Awards is in its 35th year of recognizing journalistic excellence in all Atlantic Canada media.  Entries for the 2015 news year competition open on line at  www.AJAs.ca on December 1.  The gold and silver awards will be presented at a gala awards event on May 7, 2016 at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel.
