AJAs/CNW Group workshops announced

    HALIFAX, April 13 /CNW/ - The Atlantic Journalism Awards (AJAs), in
conjunction with CNW Group, has announced a series of professional development
workshops for journalists and others to be held during the day on Saturday,
May 2, as part of the AJAs annual celebration of journalistic excellence. The
workshops will be hosted at the Université de Moncton in Moncton, NB. Details
and registration information for the morning workshops can be found at

    The 9 am morning workshops include; Social Media for Journalists, a
workshop that looks at blogs, podcasts, Facebook, and Twitter as journalism
tools, presented by Stephen Downes of the NRC Institute for Information
Technology. The second 9 am workshop is Guerilla Journalism, which discusses
where journalism is going, what tools you will need to know, and the art of
multitasking, presented by Kevin Ward and Tara Brautigam of the Canadian
Press.
    The 11 am session consists of an open discussion on journalism called
From the News Desk to the Anchor Desk with Céline Galipeau, host of
Radio-Canada's Le Telejournal. Galipeau will be talking about her career and
answering questions. The Guerilla Journalism workshop will be repeated at 11
am.
    A networking lunch will be held at the university after the morning
workshops. Transportation to and from the Université de Moncton will be
provided from the Delta Beauséjour, plus there is plenty of parking at the
university.
    The $60 registration fee includes the workshops and lunch. The student
fee is $30. Workshop participants will be presented with a certificate of
completion suitable for framing.
